Reflecting on 2024, Embracing 2025

Come with me as we reflect on the year gone by so that we can welcome the New Year with Open Arms.

As the year draws to a close, we find ourselves in a reflective mood, looking back at the milestones we’ve achieved, the challenges we’ve overcome, and the moments that have shaped us. This year has been a whirlwind of experiences, each one contributing to our growth and resilience. All I can say is that I am grateful to God for being who He is in my life.

A Year of Growth and Learning

2024 has been a year like no other. We’ve navigated through ups like me and my friends graduating from UMI with a Post Graduate Diploma in Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning, graduating from school of prayer, evangelism, storytelling, internet academy, advocacy justice among others.

And the significant downs of 2024 are losing our friend Lupy at such a young age. May her soul rest in eternal peace.

Celebrating victories and learning from our setbacks was a very important lesson in my line work and relationships. I thank God for my family, cool crew, the peculiar ladies, proverbs 31 ladies, TWG and mentors that are in my life. They have helped me to grow and become a better person. Who is that someone in your life that you are grateful for? It’s important to celebrate every victory, no matter how big or small.

Whether it was mastering new skills, reaching personal goals, or simply finding joy in the little things, each moment has added to the tapestry of our lives. I love making new years’ resolutions and keeping track through quarterly evaluation. This year 80% of them were fulfilled. If that is not God, then who is!

In my community, I have seen incredible acts of kindness and solidarity. From the cell seed project, the reusable pads campaign to the hearts with a mission Christmas. I saw generosity of the highest order.

From supporting local businesses to volunteering in our communities, the spirit of togetherness has shone brightly. These shared experiences have reminded us of the strength we find in unity. What experience has stood out for you?

Looking Forward to New Beginnings

As we bid farewell to 2024, we are filled with anticipation for what 2025. The dawn of a new year is a blank canvas, ready to be painted with our dreams and aspirations. It’s a time to set new goals, embrace fresh opportunities, and continue the journey of self-discovery.

Let’s enter the new year with a renewed sense of purpose and excitement. Here are a few ways to make the most of the upcoming year:

Set Meaningful and attainable Goals:  Reflect on what truly matters to you and set goals that align with your values and passions. Whether it’s personal development, career milestones, or health and wellness, having a clear vision will guide your journey. I normally involve God before writing my new year’s goals or resolutions. He knows best. You can try it.

Embrace Change: Change is inevitable, and it’s often the catalyst for growth. Embrace new experiences, step out of your comfort zone, and be open to learning from every situation. Don’t be afraid of change.

Cultivate Gratitude: Start each day with a grateful heart. Acknowledge the positive aspects of your life and express gratitude for the blessings you have. This mindset will attract more positivity into your life.

Foster Connections: Nurture your relationships and build new ones. Surround yourself with supportive and inspiring people who uplift and motivate you.

Prioritize Self-Care: Taking care of your mental, emotional, and physical well-being is essential. Make time for activities that bring you joy and relaxation.

A Toast to New Adventures

As we stand on the threshold of a new year, let’s raise a toast to the adventures that await us. May we step into 2025 with courage, optimism, and an unwavering belief in our potential. Here’s to new beginnings, endless possibilities, and a year filled with joy, growth, and success.

Thank you for being a part of my journey this year. I can’t wait to see what we will achieve together in the coming year. Happy New Year!

WISHING YOU A BLESSED 2025

Rossette Kyakyo

My name is Rossette Kyakyo, a founder of a youth and women led NGO and Team Leader for Slum youth Rehabilitation and Development Organization (SYRADO). I have a postgraduate diploma in Monitoring and Evaluation from Uganda Management Institute, a degree in social sciences from Makerere university majoring in social worker and social administration, a diploma in social media marketing from SHAW Academy a diploma in Guidance and Counselling from YMCA, certificate in Home and community HIV/AIDS care and a certificate in Digital marketing which all have provided me with skills to become a champion and activist for adolescent girls and young women who are marginalized in the slums of Kampala Uganda. I have experience in youth advocacy and social enterprise where I continued to learn a lot and research on how to effectively empower the youth, women and teenage girls who are marginalized like the poor, sex workers, those living with HIV, refugees and drug addicts living in the slums in Uganda. I have so far trained over 400 young people with entrepreneurship skills 100 of whom are now business owners. Recycling Trash into treasure has created businesses for the HIV+ teenage girls living in Slums through Briquette making, decorative bottle making, straw doormat making, paper beads making among others which deals directly with environment protection and climate change mitigation.
