Despite the controversies surrounding this day , St. Valentine’s day as is it known. People no longer care about how it came into being , but they see it as a day to celebrate LOVE. And it is celebrated worldwide. I wonder why they have not made it an international public holiday.
According to Plato, “At the touch of love everyone becomes a poet.” But sometimes it’s hard to find the words to describe that feeling of love. Whether you’re in the throes of a blossoming romance, or trying to let your spouse know how much they mean to you – some of the most beautiful words already written will capture exactly what you want to say through poems, songs and quotes or you can write yours.
Being in love; Love is the greatest gift of all, it makes the world go around that when you are in love you really become like a child, you stop thinking straight when the person you love is around. This especially happens when you are just starting to date. And some other few lucky people it continues even after marriage. Those are verry verry few indeed. Check yourself if you still feel the same adrenaline that you felt when you just started seeing each other. If you are lacking in that area, look for ways to revive it.
Bwing single on Valentine’s day Should you celebrate it even when you are single? I say YES, Love is love, people, whether it is with a spouse, a friend, sister brother, father, mother. It doesn’t have to be romantic, it can be agape love. Take your friends out and chart the night away. Don’t feel lonely and think about calling the other EX because it is valentine’s day. Valentine’s day can be expressed in different forms. So dont feel left out. Go out with friends or family and show each other love.
Love in action; now valentine’s day is all about putting love into action through gifting but if you are broke, dont go and steal or feel bad because you dont have a gift for your spouse. Also learn to give a simple gift especially when you know your pockets are not smiling. For example a well written poem costs nothing.
About flowers, not everyone loves flowers, though I know some people who really love certain types of flowers not roses . It’s good to know the type of flowers your loved ones enjoy for them to be relevant. Learn what makes your loved one happy and then, go a head with the gesture. What is their love language? It really matters alot. That will give you the chance to gift someone something that they will value and appreciate your love than bandwagon effect.
For the youths especially those who are dating, valentine’s day doesn’t mean SEX. Keep yourself until marriage, if he loves you, he will wait for you. Don’t lose your virginity because you want to show love. Love is bigger than sex. Sex is one of the packages that are found in love but it only becomes meaningful in marriage.
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. Those are the true characteristics of love. Dont be deceived.
My role model when it comes to Love is God. He selflessly gave His only son to die for the sins of mankind which He did not commit simply because He wanted the relationship between Himself and man restored. The bible says our God is Love. So if you don’t know how to love, ask God to teach you because He is perfect in love.
Finally “Don’t rely on someone else for your happiness and self-worth. Only you can be responsible for that. If you can’t love and respect yourself – no one else will be able to make that happen. Accept who you are – completely; the good and the bad – and make changes as YOU see fit – not because you think someone else wants you to be different.”
